August crowds in MB what to expect?

We're wondering what the crowd size is in the month of August at Myrtle Beach? We were warned that the summer months, it get's very bad. (We were there last year before the crowds) If it's really bad, where further down the beach should we stay? We have two young children.

Also, we stayed last time near the boardwalk. It was great but looks like it's booked this time around. If you have a suggestion on what condo to stay, please send.

which part of August? first 2 weeks are pretty busy, then 3rd week things calm down, many families getting ready for school to start. Stay south or north of Myrtle Beach, you will find a bit more breathing room. There are so many resorts and rental agencies, you have to figure out your dates, amenities you want and price range, then do your homework on line.

Last half of August will be slower and cheaper. Depending on age of children and schooling, Sept is even better in my opinion.

we always go late in august, acutally the last week of august. with a toddler we have stayed on the south end of the new boardwalk at Oceans One Resort. the location was perfect, every evening we walked the boardwalk with no crowds at all. Oceans Ones was nice and clean, we felt safe at night and with the washers and dryers in each room we packed extremly light.

We also go toward the end of August and stay on the south end of MB. We have not had any issues with crowds or waiting in long lines at restaurants. We typically arrive at a restaurant by 5 o'clock.

Other than waiting long lines to restaurants (and pools eventually) what else could get crowded? Does anybody know how crowded Caribbean Resort would be 1st week of August? We are thinking to rent an umbrella and two chairs on the beach, we are two adults and one 9 yrs old daughter. Is the beach crowded in the evening (walk)? Thanks,

Even during peak times the beach clears off pretty fast after 5pm. There will still be people out, but you won't feel like you're on a slalom course.
