Surfside Beach

Hello!

We are renting a place near Dogwood Lake along Ocean Blvd the last week of July. There are 11 people in my group.. all ranging in age from 25-29. Are there any good bars in this area? Any along the beach with views of the ocean? What else is in the area for us to do. (We aren't golfers, but fishing wouldn't be out of the question)... And how long of a ride is it up to Myrtle Beach? Thanks!!!

River City Cafe is right on the beach. It is a restaurant/bar. You can sit outside and have a great view of the ocean. They have great burgers. There is a bar upstairs but we have never been in it. About 10-15 minutes to MB.

The Dogwood Lake area is nice and more relaxed / less crowded than MB...

Mid-day, it takes 20 minutes or so to drive to Family Kingdom in Myrtle Beach... That same drive could take twice as long if it is around 5PM due to heavy traffic.

Bars:

Like waldens33 said, http://www.rivercitycafe.com/ is great and it is just a short walk from Dogwood Lake! (Less than a mile.)

Neal & Pam's is a bar next to http://www.bubbasfishshack.com/index.html that is just another block south from the Surfside Beach pier. I haven't been to this bar but have seen it packed while going by.

Google Maps is also showing a bar called Scotty's Beach Bar that looks like it is on the beach across the street from Neal and Pam's.

If you follow Surfside Drive to US-17, there are a couple places too... I've been to Sundown Sports Pub on a Sunday, it was slow but my friends and I had a good time a few years back... (Sundown Sports Pub was open later than the places by the beach on Sunday.) (This is just over a mile walk.)

http://www.conchcafe.net/ has a bar (and a good Long Island ;o). It is another place on the beach and has good seafood. (It's about a 2 mile walk from Dogwood Lake.)

If you have a DD or cab, there are a couple bars in Murrells Inlet that are packed on Fridays and Saturdays.

Food: I would suggest Lee's Inlet Kitchen, Drunken Jacks, and Russell's for Dinner. Flo's Place and Prosser's BBQ for lunch. And Omega Pancake House for Breakfast.

Fishing: My brother usually spends one day at the Surfside Pier fishing. There are charter fishing places in Murrells Inlet too.

They have Karaoke at Scotty's Beach Bar. Lots of fun and right on the water.

susierotolo, is Karaoke a daily event at Scotty's Beach Bar or is it only on certain nights? We'll have to check it out during our next trip! Thanks!

Mike, we stayed across the road from there for the month of October and at that time of year it was only once a week. Considering this is the start of the busy season, it may be more frequent.

Only drawback to Scotty's- they don't serve food. We watched several people fall down the stairs on their way out of there! Tipsy, I would guess. One night, a guy came out and when he backed up he knocked down the fence. Anyway, I digress.

Lots of good times at Scotty's for sure!

if you want to go "bar hopping" with dancing and....... try Broadway on the Beach. No beach but really great fun. Easy to get to- plug Celebrity circle into your GPS. I live up the street from surfside beach and we go to Broadway all the time, and sometimes Murrels Inlet for food and scenery. Lots of bars with patios out there, literally 10 minutes south on 17.

http://www.pieratgardencity.com/

Short drive straight down the beach to Garden City Pier. Drinks and entertainment on the pier. Web site says Karaoke but looks like it's just in late afternoon.

Don't know if they still do it or not but few years back they lit up bottom of pier at night. Could see down in water. Sharks and rays swimming around the pier. Cheaper than going to aquarium.

Gee, don't know how we missed that. Sounds like fun. Will certainly be checking out the pier in 6 more weeks
