The "Jackson" Experience?

for a family of 4 on a great American road trip...is Jackson a reasonable attraction? if so, what is the best choice for a hotel w/pool, restaurants (kids are older, looking for more than a chain or fast food), and attractions? what about local favorite restaurants? for example, if you visited us in Greensboro, NC, you'd have to try Stamey's Bar-B-Q.....it's famous, it's really good, and it's Lexington-style.....different altogether from eastern NC BBQ.

any help and/or advice would be great...the last posting for hotels was a year ago. thanks in advance!

we're leaving from Jackson to go to Memphis on day 2 and the first of the "planned" stops as I (the mom) want to go to Graceland and pay my respects! (it's also in Frommer's "500 places to take your kids") please recommend a great bbq restaurant or other places we should not miss while in Jackson and Memphis. thanks!

One of the first major areas that you will come to in Memphis from Jackson is the Wolfchase area. This is where the largest mall and most of your major department stores will be. In the same circle/parking area is a restaurant called Bahama Breeze. We really like to eat there. You'll find most of your chain restaurants there as well. If your headed to Graceland, you wouldn't want to leave Memphis without going to Beale Street or the Peabody Hotel. Beale Street is the home of Sun Records and now has a Coyote Ugly Bar. It just has a lot going on in that area for everyone and lots of great BBQ places.
