Knock to Sligo

Looking to travel from Knock Airport (Ryanair) to Sligo in November (weekend). Is there any public transport? What is the easiest way to go? Is car hire the best bet? Thanks.

There is a shuttle service from the aiport to a nearby town where you can pick up a bus to Sligo, but there's only a few buses to Sligo every day so you'll be lucky if your flight arrives at a time when you can actually use the service - see here for details

Or you could just get a taxi to take you to Knock town to pick up a bus if there was one due soon

Otherwise yes you can hire a car and it's about a 45 min to 1 hr drive to Sligo town depending on traffic

Car hire is probably your best bet to be honest. You may/may not be aware at how remote Knock Airport is - it's basically located on the top of a mountain ridge in the middle of 'nowhere', County Mayo and used to be known as 'the hut on the hill' before it's recent expansion! Until very recently there were no public transport links to/from it at all - however the new shuttle bus (449) can now get you to nearby Charlestown which is on the border of Mayo/Sligo (about 10-15 minutes drive away) but the frequency isn't that great with only five buses a day: 11.15, 12.00, 14.30, 15.35, 17.35 Monday to Friday and slightly different times on Sundays. From Charlestown (a bit of a 'bend in the road' village) you'd then have to get a connecting bus to Sligo with Bus Eireann using this website link:

www.buseireann.ie

There are also taxis at the airport if you just need to get to a single location...

If you do decide to hire a car and drive around then it'll take you 30-45 minutes from the airport to the centre of Sligo Town itself, depending on the traffic, and the roads that you'll take (the N17 then the N4) are not too bad and reasonably accurately sign-posted :-)
