Hotel Near Ferry Port

Hoping someone can help! We will be traveling to Guernsey on a cruise ship (May 2013) and hope to disembark and stay the night. We then want to catch a ferry to St. Malo the next day. Can anyone tell me of a hotel that is close to the port that we could walk to and how many times the fast ferry runs to St. Malo in May? The ferry schedule is not posted for May 2013 as of yet. Also, why do some ferries take 7 hours and others can make it in 3 hours? Confused. Thanks for the help and for any suggestions of must see sites in Guernsey.

Moore's Hotel is within walking distance (approx. 8 minutes), and is located in the Town (St Peter Port) Centre. Have a look at the reviews here online to see if it suits you:

Ferry:

The direct, non-stop ferry usually operates once a day from Guernsey to St Malo, and takes around 3hrs. Not sure where you saw 7hrs?? Maybe this was the time from the UK, or via Jersey? Do note that ferries are occasionally cancelled/delayed if there is inclement weather. Keep an eye on the web-site for next year's details; they should be available by the end of the year, hopefully:

Air:

As an alternative to taking the ferry, you might like to consider flying to Dinard, which is near St Malo. Aurigny Air Services fly once a day; it's a great experience if you enjoy flying as the aircraft is very small, with open cabin to the cockpit, so you can see your pilot. It's also alot quicker than the ferry, taking about 25-30 minutes:

Guernsey Must See Sights:

The famous author Victor Hugo (Les Miserables, Travailleurs de la Mer) lived in exile in Guernsey for some years; you can visit his home:

If you have an interest in 2nd world war, you can visit museums, and fortifications left from the Nazi Occupation:

Castle Cornet, which guards the entrance to St Peter Port Harbour is worth visiting:

There are beautiful beaches on the west coast, and cliff paths leading to sheltered coves on the south coast. The Cliffs are particularly beautiful in springtime with all the wild flowers:

There is a regular bus service and route 7/7A takes you right around the Island; it's a good way to get an overview. The bus terminus is about 5-minutes walk from Moore's hotel, plus there is a bus stop near the hotel:

And there are also the beautiful islands of Herm and Sark, which lie a short distance off the east coast of Guernsey, accessible by ferry:

Soo . . . lots of different ideas, which I hope will inspire you. You might want to stay longer ;-))

Pleased to help!

Condor Ferries

From what I remember, the direct ferry leaves late lunch time - around 1330hrs and arrives in St Malo 1630hrs (2-hr journey). On some days you might have to travel via Jersey, changing boats in Jersey; maybe that's why you saw a journey time of 7hrs.
