Walks without a car

We are currently trying to settle on somewhere to stay for a week's holiday. We are probably looking at Killin, but also considering Callander. We do not have a car and don't really want to hire one, but want to be able to do some good walks including up a mountain (moderate level) if possible. Any suggestions of good walks to do from Killin, or indeed Callander, without having a car would be gratefully received.

I have started looking at the walkhighlands website, but while it's great with not knowing the area it's difficult and lengthy trying to work out what would be good options. Especially as lots of them say the starting place is some car park somewhere!

1. Re: Walks without a car

Killin: there are fantastic mountains in the area, the obvious one being Ben Lawers, or its companion hills to the East. And there are the Tarmachans to the west of it These are pretty big hills, but that means long days rather than intrinsically difficult ones.

Callander: the easier nearby hill would be Ben Ledi, with a path up it from the south end of Loch Lubnaig.

The good mountains are directly north of Callander, look for the 'Branklinn falls' signpost at the east end of the high street. With a long walk and some good navigation you can take in both Stuc a chroinn and Ben Vorlich. I don't think there's local transport, you could try to arrange a taxi to the road end.

There is a bus connecting Callandar and Killin

THis could give you access to Ben Ledi and also the smaller hills south and West of Killin.

This site might also help with Lawers or other mountains
