If you are inquiring about Memphis, TN, and planning to visit the tourist attractions, Downtown is best. You are within walking or trolley range of most of the music attractions and the Mud Island River Park which contains a 1/3 mile flowing Mississippi River model in which you can wade and having paddle boats at the end. You would need a taxi for the highly acclaimed Memphis Zoo and Childrens Museum which would be good for the 5 year old.

Good family hotels would be the Residence Inn Downtown, Holiday Inn Select, Springhill Suites and the Peabody Hotel where the famous ducks march daily.
