Your best bet is to go independently, we normally book a flight first, Manchester to Memphis via Chicago or Atlanta. You can then book your hotel separately.

Last year we went from Manchester to Memphis via Chicago. It's a lot easier than booking a tour. I suppose it depends what you want really, to be led by a tour company's timetable or do your own thing. If you drive then doing it yourself is the best option. Remarkable as it may seem, public transport in America is not that good really.

Another option we have done many times is just get a flight to Atlanta and hire your rental car in Atlanta and drive over to Memphis, that means you don't have to worry about connecting flights.

If you want further advice, just ask.

Thats great, we want to do our own thing, do you know if they fly from Glasgow as Manchester is 3-4 hours drive? We will be taking a 9yr old boy and 14yr old girl, is there things for them to do?

Thank you

I'm sure Glasgow will have flights to Chicago or Atlanta, most major airports fly to those hubs. Yes there is stuff for the kids to see but I will let the Memphis locals answer that one but Memphis has a great zoo complete with Panda's! to name one attraction.

Depending on the time of year you plan to visit, your kids might also like Mud Island, botanical gardens (excellent children's garden area), Sky Zone, seeing the ducks at the Peabody, a show at the Orpheum, perhaps a basketball or baseball game, a visit to Shelby Farms for their amazing playground, canoe rentals, horse back riding, etc., an evening at the drive in or the Pink Palace for starters.

As Moviemaker said, we do have an awesome zoo!

You're so welcome.

The zoo is about 15 minutes from downtown about 20 minutes from Graceland. Mud Island will be open when you're here in June and if your kids have never been to a drive in, they might like that. Children under 10 are free, you get a double feature and you can bring in your own refershments, including adult beverages. We often stop to pick up a pizza on the way. Also, if your kids are into haunted things, ghosts, etc., they might enjoy Backbeat Tours Walking Ghost tour or a visit to Elmwood Cemetery. A favorite of kids at the cemetery is to make rubbing of some of the more unique markers.
