Visiting December is awesome because you have lots of holiday events in addition to all the regular attractions. For holiday specific things, you might look into Zoo Lights, Starry Nights at Shelby Farms, The Enchanted Forest Festival of Trees at the Pink Palace, Graceland at night to see the lights and any events that might be going on downtown. Last year, they had a few things downtown each weekend like carolers, a pet parade, etc. I don't think a schedule of those events has been published yet. Depending on your dates, Theatre Memphis will be starting their annual production of A Christmas Carol around that time.

An extra money saving tip is that the Pink Palace Museum is free on Tuesdays beginning at 1 p.m. If the day and time work out, you can schedule it so that you only have to pay for the Festival of Trees and any extras you want to do like IMAX, etc.

For other ideas, you might be interested in Graceland, Sun Studios, the zoo or Shelby Farms during the day, Lichterman Nature Center, the National Civil Rights Museum, Stax, Rock and Soul Museum, botanical gardens and a peek at the ducks in the Peabody lobby. Mom and Dad would also enjoy an adult beverage in the lobby bar while you're there. She might also enjoy the Fire Museum and the Memphis Train and Trolley Museum, both downtown. I think your daughter might be too old to appreciate the Children's Museum, but you can check that out for yourself. If you like organized tours, you would all enjoy Backbeat Tour's Mojo tour. If you like sports, the Grizzlies or the University of Memphis Tigers may be in town on your dates.

Memphis is famous for barbecue and you'll want to try that while you're here. Downtown, I'd suggest Rendezvous or Central. Some folks also like Blues City Cafe or the Pig on Beale. Other dining good dining options with kids would be Kooky Canuck, Gus's Fried Chicken, Flying Fish, Blue Plate or the Tea Room downtown. If you want something more upscale, let us know and we can make suggestions.

A note about Beale and your daughter. She'll be able to stroll the street with you, go into restaurants and sit at a table with you to dine and listen to live music and enjoy music outside the clubs, restaurants and bars. She won't be allowed in anywhere that is strictly a club. Be sure to visit A. Schwabs on Beale during the day with her as they're not open every night. Lastly, the later it gets at night, the wilder Beale gets, especially on the weekends. So, plan accordingly.

Great suggestions above. I might expand that the NBA Grizzlies play Phoenix on 12/3, Clippers on12/5 and Golden State on 12/7 in the fun and high tech FedEX Forum. The Broadway production of "Sister Act" will be running most of the first week in December at the Orpheum, and " A Tuna Christmas" plays that whole week at Playhouse on The Square (www.playhouseonthesquare.org). The Memphis Zoo is highly rated with Giant Pandas, and during that week you'll find it lit up for the season and hosting ice skating. The Imax at Pink Palace will feature the film "Great White Shark". There's also a great planetarium there.

My kids always liked factory tours--the Gibson Guitar Factory tour is very good.

The Museum on Mud Island is good for kids; don't know if the big topographic model of the Mississippi is open in December.

You might want to add Huey's to your dining options as well.

My boys at that age liked the Children's Museum of Memphis, riding the trolley, the Peabody ducks and rooftop, Grizzlies game at FedEx Forum, Redbirds game (probably out of season), Huey's to shoot toothpick into the ceiling, a ride on a riverboat, the Flying Fish, and Kooky Canuks. We have absolutely the very best Zoo!
