Weekend trip with a 4 year old...

We're planning a weekend in Memphis with our 4 year old. We plan on going to the Children's Museum. Any other good things to do with a little one? What about kid friendly places to eat? Where is a good/safe area to stay? Thanks!

The Chlidrens Museum is award winning and is a good choice. The Peabody Hotel's March Of The Ducks is always a major hit with the little ones and the Grand Lobby where they swim all day is a good place for an extended visit.for the family, unbeatable during the Holidays if you were to be visiting that soon. During Spring and summer Mud Island is great for kids with it's overhead tram and model Mississippi River which you can wade for 1/3 of a mile, and Shelby Farms has Buffalo to watch and low challenge horseback riding. Check the Orpheum Theatre's schedule for children's productions as well as the Levitt Shell. The Memphis Zoo is on of the nation's best, one of only 4 with Giant Pandas. Hotel areas in the Downtown tourist neighborhoods are well patrolled and not particularly dangerous, just like East Memphis and further east in the county. Treat the whole city as you would other larger cities in terms of safety. Use common sense and ignore the occasional Panhandler on the street just like you would in San Francisco, Chicago or Nashville. Have a good visit!
