You have Llandeilo, a lovely little town, Carmarthen but could be busy, depends if you want a big town, there's St Clears or Whitland smaller, park on the street type of town. Both have good cafes and toilets, and on the A40 no need to make a big detour. I would shop at Haverfordwest they have Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl.

If you cant reach Carmarthen before you need a break, suggest the plough hotel as you come into LLandeilo, nice place and good food if you want it, OR drive into Carmarthen , plenty of car parks, lots of nice cafes etc, marks/debenhams,and a number of nice other cafes .

To eat, suggest stopping at the Roundhouse restaurant, just off the roudabout(a40/B4313) turning to Whitland, after that to walk off your meal, pop into Narberth, wonderful little town to browse around with nice cafes/restaurants and lovely upmarket shops etc, take the B4313 turning to Narberth off the A40 where the new Robeston Wathen bypass starts, Car park on right as you enter Narberth, driving through Haverfordwest, you will pass the Tesco store to top up on provisions, used to be a nice chippy in broad haven, up the road from little haven, hope this helps with your plans, enjoy

dozy dai/s advice is spot on in my view

later in the year (closed now) i would recommend the cafe/restaurant at Picton Castle

You could also consider the eating places at the national botanic garden a few miles east of carmarthen
