New Year where to stay?

Help. we are looking to stay in Sydney for 5 nights at the end of our holiday to see the new year in. Manly in a nice apartment, or in the city? or pay the extra for the harbour or darling? If we stay in Manly is access to the city for the celebrations easy?

Hi,

Are you referring to THIS new year - as in two days time?

If so, I'd say you've basically left yourself no choice but to take whatever is left in Manly or the city. But be prepared to pay astronomical rates.

The city is accessible by both ferry and bus from Manly.

Currently on Wotif, city rates showing are between $300-$3390. Only one property in Manly showing $599.

Ah. Much better.

It really depends on whereabouts youre planning to spend a great majority of time. Manly is a beautiful seaside location, but if you're not interested in spending time on the beach, and going to be going back and forth into the attractions in the city, then perhaps a city location may suit you better. Of course on NYE 2014, accessibility to the fireworks is the focal point.

In the city, the areas closest in proximity to Sydney Harbour is prime accommodation, and as such the most expensive. Then heading away from the Harbour, the areas of CBD/Town Hall are also popular, but not as expensive due to the lack of views. Then finally you have the areas of Darling Harbour to the west, and southern end of the city is Central Station/Chinatown.

Accommodation in general is not released until 12mths in advance. For NYE, many properties will not advertise rates until March onwards - but from there, it's first in first served.

Have a look at www.Wotif.com (6mths visibility) and www.Booking.com (12mths visibility) to simply gauge properties and narrow down your choices. Once you have done so, contact the properties directly to enquire about the booking, cancellation and deposit process.

Goodluck
