The absolute closest 2 hotels are Hampton INN(New, it just opened!) or the Hilton(very nice)

they are both in the vacinity of 4th or 5th ave

the ryman, wildhorse & 2nd Ave & Broadway all within

a few blocks . Vanderbilt is about 3-4 miles up Broadway .

It is considered uptown around 21 st ave.The VU area is

mostly university/hospital area

Consider looking into the Holiday Inn Express downtown if you are needing something cheaper. You will have to pay a lot more to stay downtown, and beware many downtown hotels charge a fee to park. You may be better off getting a few miles out of town, save a little on lodging, and just pay to park and walk around. Vanderbilt is a nice area which is west of downtown, but not what I consider walking distance from downtown. Lots of restaurants, a few shops, centered around Centennial Park and the Vanderbilt University campus.
