Best days to visit

We're visiting Nashville in February next year and are wondering if we would be better to go over a weekend to be sure of going to a show at the Grand Ole Oprey. Maybe they have shows every night!! Any other ideas for a3 day visit would be welcome.

Hi thirdagerBangor,

Welcome to the forum! Hummm...that's a good question. On Tuesday nights, they have a "different" Opry. The artists are on stage for about 15 - 20 minutes doing four, five or more songs. On the weekend Opry, they may do one or two songs during their show. But, you get to see many more performers. But also, on Tuesday, you get to see the fewer stars longer. Hummm...hard choice. LOL! I have heard that they may start a Wednesday(?) show with just the "classic" artists only. Be sure to keep an eye on the Opry.com website. www.opry.com

Definitely visit the Country Music Hall of Fame (allow 3 good hours for the museum, it is worth the time) and the Ryman Auditorium, including backstage (a little more money).

Outstanding Nashville landmarks: Parthenon (low cost) at Centennial Park (free), Bicentennial Mall Park for TONS of information and interesting monuments (free). Bus tours available from NashTrash (funny and fictitious), Tommy's Tours (rumored funny), Gray Line "Discover Nashville" (more factual) is good.

Being from Maine, you could be hardy types who like the great outdoors. Good, short/long, level/hilly hikes at Radnor Lake and Warner Parks. You can see bald eagles and great Tennessee scenery on a Blue Heron Cruise on the Cumberland River in Ashland City.

You will find up-to-date entertainment suggestions, festivals, etc. by visiting the website for "Ms. Cheap." She writes a wonderful column for the local newspaper and lists free and inexpensive things to do, great shopping, etc.

Search on "thetennessean.com" for "Ms. Cheap."

For great restaurant choices (no chains), visit "nashville originals" at http://www.nashvilleoriginals.com/

If you are going to do more than Grand Ole Opry, week day is a lot better to find parking, but traffic is a lot less durning the day on weekends. (unless something big going on, then a couple hours of traffic might be there)
