Graceland tour? The Hermitage? Jack Daniels distillary?

Can you please tell me if the VIP tour is worth the price while visiting Graceland? As we will be driving down from Nashville, I wonder if the front of the line price was worth not having to wait in line. We will be visiting in mid July.

I see The Hermitage is highly recommended. With an 8 and 14 year old girls, what would be cool and different? We love to do just about anything, so if you have some "different" ideas, that would be fantastic! We will be in town for a week...We often times find that local museums offered in small towns can be alot of fun!

Graceland is in Memphis, so that question might garner more answers on the Memphis forum.

The Hermitage is very worthwhile if you like history. Other good historic sights in Nashville are Belle Meade Plantation, Belmont Mansion, the Franklin area (Carter House, Carnton Plantation, etc.). If you visit the Nashville Zoo (a very nice zoo) there is a historic house on that property as well, with a period garden, stables, etc.

We thought that the backstage tour at the Grand Ole Opry was fun. We also liked hte Parthenon, BIcentennial State Park, and the State Museum.

If you go to Memphis, the tour of the Gibson Guitar Factory and the topographic model of the Mississippi on Mud Island would be good options.

I think the VIP pkg is worth it. You are taken over to the Mansion right away and you have access to some other exhibits not available to other visitors. There is also exhibits where you get your tickets that you have to pay for without the VIP. This gives you option to see everything they have available.

Your girls might enjoy the hands-on room at the Frist Museum; they can design a variety of art projects.

Mud Island and the Parthanon sound great for the kids and we love history, so it is a must see. I am a bit artsy, so the Frist Museum would fit right in also!

VIP at Graceland sounds like a must as well...How about fantastic dinner in or about the Nashville area?

We just returned from 5 days in Nashville and Memphis with two daughters 9 and 11. We bought the platinum tour tickets with discount on Graceland website and really enjoyed the tour. We did 10am tour and there was no issue with waits or parking. We saw plenty. We toured the house, walked around the car display and the 2 airplanes and by then our girls had had enough.

The drive to Lynchburg was very nice and the tour of the distillery was interesting although I though just walking around the property was the best part on a great spring day. Make sure if you go to Lynchburg you make reservations a Miss Mary Bobo's for lunch.

We also visited Cheeckwood estate and gardens and Barbara Mandrel's house. All fun!

When in Memphis, check out the ducks at the Peabody Hotel. Watch them make their entrance or exit from the fountain. The kids will like it.

"How about fantastic dinner in or about the Nashville area?"

That's a huge question, answered many many many many times on these boards. It all depends on what you are looking for: Type of food, type of atmosphere, budget, etc. etc. You might read other threads and pick up some ideas, cruise some reviews, come back with more specific questions. Or, just go to nashvilleoriginals.com and choose from just about any of those restaurants.
