A Day out in Tennessee

We are 6 British guys visiting Nashville in mid October and we plan to hire a car and have a day out to see some of Tennessee. I had thought of heading south to take in the JD tour some good food for lunch and an afternoon paddling on the Elk river.

Is this achievable in a day?

Is there anything/anywhere between Nashville and Lynchburg that we should take in? Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

Not much between Lynchburg and Nashville except Mufreesboro. Tons of shopping, many local restaurants and Civil War battlegrounds. Going to the JD tour and canoeing sounds like an awesome day and is doable as a day trip

If you like American Civil War history and neat restored main streets you might try the historic district of Franklin. There's a couple of interesting old homes with a story to tell which you can tour. If you catch it on the way back in to Nashville, stop at 55 South Restaurant and Bar on Main St. for cheap happy hour Oysters on the halfshell. It's a friendly local place.

Thank you both for your comments and suggestions. Sounds like we have the makings of a good day out and we can add in Franklin that will be a bonus.

Even if you don't make it to Franklin to see the attractions during the day, consider spending the evening there. The area around the city square is walkable and full of boutiques and restaurants. Some good restaurants, too. You can find free parking in some garages just off the square. Check out the web site for the city of Franklin for details.
