Nashville Restaurant Recommendation

Where do the locals go for the best eats, great service, fun times, a place you would take out of towners, your mom, and considered a restaurant landmark in Nashville?

"Fun times" = loud party atmosphere?

Landmark = long-standing or current trendy hotspot?

What price range?

Well, with regard to "Fun Times", no not loud party atmosphere, more like a casual non formal environment. As for "Landmark", looking for long standing.

Price range, basically average pricing, not expensive.

Primarily looking for someplace that's well known to everyone in Nashville, with good food, friendly service, and where people might take out of towners for a true Nashville dining experience.

Thanks.

Downtown has very few local restaurants. Most are chains. The ones I like are Puckett's Grocery, Merchants Restaurant, Past Perfect, South...Now move over to Midtown/Hillsboro Village area and you will have a broader selection of local eateries. Boundry, Cabana, Sunset Grill, Bosco;s and Jackson's are all very popular with locals. For lunch, try Noshville, Fido's or Soulshine Pizza. Amerigo's on West End has great Italian food. Gulch and East Nashville have some fun, trendy restaurants, as well.

2 places come to mind that are institutions in Nashville: The Loveless Cafe and Pancake Pantry. I personally think they hype is overinflated for both, but both are good and both definitely fit the criteria of "landmark" and "normal prices".

I never know what people mean when they say "not too expensive." That's a really subjective criteria, and can vary wildly depending not only on personal comfort level but where you are from.

Frankly the landmark places are, as MonkeyLizard said, aren't the best dining Nashville has to offer. There are many many many places that are newer and better. I would never take visitors to any of these old spots because they aren't representative of the CURRENT food scene, which is very exciting.

I DO like Pancake Pantry, but they are breakfast/lunch only.

I agree that Loveless is OK but I don't understand why people go in raptures about it. But, it IS an institution and a draw for tourists and locals alike. It's out on the west edge of town, though.

Probably the longest-lived place in town would be the Capitol Grille in The Hermitage Hotel. That's probably not going to fit your budget or atmosphere criteria, although it's a FABULOUS space and meal in a historic hotel.

Another historic -- and nationally acclaimed -- spot is iconic, cheap, and about as casual as you can get. That's Arnold's, but they're not open for dinner.

There are several other places I could name that have been around for decades and obviously have a loyal clienele, but honestly the food is just OK.

If you are willing to look at places that have been around less than 50 years ... here's a list of spots that are good (maybe not the best of the best of the best, but good): Sunset Grill, Bound'ry, Tin Angel, F. Scott's. They may not meet your "casual" criteria, but be aware that Nashville is not a dress-up town. The restaurant may be in the finer-dining range, but as long as you are wearing clothing and shoes you'll be fine.

Monell's is also a landmark. There are 4 locations now, but the one in Germantown is closest to downtown and AFAIK, the original one.

We just got back and really enjoyed Southern. We also went to Etch...excellent, but expensive! Those were our "better" restaurants! We also went to BB Kings and had wings and stuff...and Past Perfect for a fabulous burger.....All were walking distance from the Courtyard downtown where we were staying!
