Parking near Gaylord Auditorium

WE are coming to Nashville to see the American Idols in August. IS it best to stay downtown near the Gaylord and walk or is parking not a big problem? WHERE is a decent place that is not too expensive near the Gaylord?

Parking probably won't be a problem- there are several lots and parking garages within walking distance. I cannot think of any places to stay that are within walking distace that are not "too expensive." They are pricey because of their location to the action. You would have more reasonable choices near the airport, and it is relatively safe in that area. I can tell you as a local to avoid anything around the Trinity Ln/Dickerson Rd/Metro Center areas because of drugs and prostitution. We stayed at the Renaissance once after a concert and had a blast- so if you can afford it, it would be a lot of fun.

What's your hotel budget like? That will give us a better idea of what hotels to suggest.

Most of the parking garages downtown charge $5 to park after 5:00, so that's usually your best deal. Some of the lots right by Gaylord raise their prices when there's an event there. Parking garages on Commerce and on 7th are only a few blocks from the Gaylord, so it's not a bad walk at all.

We are thinking about the HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS DOWNTOWN. Thought about the HILTON...but 180.00 a night is to much. Looks like the Holiday Inn is just a few blocks from GAYLORD. WE are used to staying in the OPRYLAND area.

Almost anything downtown would be acceptable. Just find something in your price range. The HI Express on Broadway would be a great option. Try also the Doubletree, Courtyard Downtown, Renaissance Hotel, the Union Station. Perhaps you could get a deal.

Since the Idols concert is at the GEC, you will be going against rush hour traffic, so staying in the burbs may be an option. The Brentwood/Franklin area would take about 20-30 minutes drive.

A very good option you may also want to explore the West End/Vanderbilt area. That would be only a couple of miles to the GEC, not too expensive by cab each way.

Since you are coming in from Indiana, I would bypass the north side of the city, as it is not the greatest part of the city. Out east has tons of construction going on and if you are not familiar with the highways, could get a little frustrating.

Good luck, welcome to Nashville, and enjoy the show.
