first trip to smokies--2 families--need cabin suggestion

We have 2 families traveling to the Smokies in August. We would like to book a cabin to share. We will have 4 adults and 6-7 children (ages 2, 4, 6, 8, 8, 12, 12). We would like a resort that has a swimming pool and possibly other kid-friendly amenities. Also, we would like to be fairly close to Great Smoky Mountain NP and restaurants. We don't mind driving on some curvy roads, but don't really want anything too treacherous. We would really appreciate any suggestions...we want this to be a fun trip for all. Any activity suggestions would also be appreciated.

Try Cabins USA and ask for a cabin in Cabins at the Crossing. They are fairly new with a nice pool and playground. We stayed in "Fishing Hole" last year, it was a 4 bdr 4bth with 2 sleeper sofas. It was a very nice cabin. The cabins aren't too far from the parkway, but just far enough to be quiet. I would say it took us less than 5 minutes to get from the cabin to the parkway in PF. Also the road was very good, pretty flat and no sharp curves. We are staying in another cabin there this year just because we liked the area so much.

As for activities, try the Deer Farm and Petting Zoo in Sevierville. My children loved it (3 & 6 yr.) They also like the NASCAR Speedpark, the Aquarium, and I would suggest a picnic by a stream. We didn't do that last year because it was too rainy, but it is in our plans for this year.

Hi...we have been going to PF for 3 years now. We have stayed with Timbertops and Starr Crest resort. All 3 times, cabins were exactly as pictured. Starr Crest has ultra cabins..these cabins have many child activities inside the cabin. Arcade games, Playstation or xbox with games, air hockey and some have dvd collections in cabin. Neither resort had big pools. They both are right down street from Dollywood. We stayed in Champions Run in Star crest and could see and hear the wooden roller coaster in the distance. We had 2 girls, 12 years old at the time, and they were very happy with the lower level of Champions Run. Thats where all the games were. Have fun....
