Horseback Riding

My husband and I are thinking of adding horseback riding to our list of things to do. I was just wondering if anyone could tell us the best places to do this in the area?

There are several companies in the area.We used one in 2007 and I cant think of the name of the place. Waldens Landing and Cades Cove also has Carriage rides.

They have horseback riding at the exotic deer park and it is beautiful up there. There is horseback riding at 5 oaks right across from the mall on the parkway.

I've ridden both at Sugarlands and Smoky Mountain Riding Stables. We enjoyed both places very much. The trails were pretty similar in that you go up into the mountain a bit, as well as over streams, We went a bit late in the day when we went with Smoky Mountains Stables and the horses seemed a bit tired. When we went with Sugarlands we went as soon as they opened in the morning, and the horses were full of spunk. We have all ridden for years and are quite experienced, and the staff 'fit' you to a horse that was suited to your size as well as your experience level. I would not hesitate to use either place again.

I would like to try out Waldens Creek and Ponderosa stables out sometime though as well, as friends of mine have used both places before and liked them as well.

I dont know but they might be.I googled Sugarlands and it brought up Smoky Mountain Riding too.Discover the Smokies has both of them listed and it looks like different phone numbers.I guess you can always call and ask them.

I think we are going to do the carriage ride at Cades Cove.

We really want to do both... I think I like the horseback riding at smoky mountain riding stables, but we may do the carriage ride at cades cove when we go, since it's only $10 a person.

Does anyone know about Douglas Riding Stables? I got something in the mail from them.. and you get a free photo and cowboy hat....

My husband and I went to Douglas park September of 09. It was okay not the best though. The staff were not the nicest. They werent rude just not very outgoing. The picture you get is just a small 4x6. And its not even when you are on the horses. You set on a bench and they take your picture. And print it out from there computer. We are going back to Tenn this July with our children and we are looking around for other places to do horseback riding this year.

We rode with Douglas a couple years ago and it was not the best. They take you around the lake but at the time it was really low and dried up and there was no scenery to speak of, just scorching sun and an almost dry lakebed. We did the one in the National Park before also and it was great. The trails are shaded and there were lots of creeks and such to cross.
