Preferred week

I understand that October is busier than normal in the area, but was curious if schools are out for fall break during the weeks of 10/21 or 10/28.

Wanting to come down to the area for a week, not sure if one week would be better than another.

Any help would be appreciated.

Will there still be alot going on in the town for the fall festivals? So it is more hectic the week of 10/21 then? Do schools in the area get out for a fall break?

Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure if schools let out for fall break or not. From somewhere around the 2nd week of October till the final week of that month, the towns and the park will be jammed with "leaf lookers". (of course that could all change depending on weather conditions) We traditionally come the 1st week in November, and usually there's still some foliage on the trees. There will probably be times when it seems like you have the park to yourselves.

October is the third most visited month, behind July and June. Mid to late October seems to be the peak of visitors (and the peak of leaf color) but all of October is generally a busy time. Blount County (Maryville/Townsend area) fall break is Oct 7 - 11 this year.

Thanks for the info, looks like November will be less busy. Are business still open the same as in October?

Yes, the businesses will still be open.

I'm thinking with the record rainfalls this year, the color should be magnificent for the last two weeks of October. Of course that's just a guess really. Keep in mind that as the days get shorter and chlorophyll fades, all it takes is one or two very windy storms to knock leaves from the trees. Not trying to discourage a November visit, we just make a point of doing our best to catch the peak color, which means the 3rd or 4th week in October most years.

There will be crowds. Get out early and beat the traffic. Avoid the strips in both towns unless you are going to spend time in town. If you're hiking, get to the trail near daybreak, or locate hikes that don't draw crowds.

Here in Eastern Ky. we get out Oct.4th and go back Oct.14th, But we start school here very early we went back Aug.1st. Everything is still open same as the summer because Oct. thru Jan. is their busy season because of the leaves changing colors and then the Christmas season starts first week in Nov. It's the most beautiful time to go and see all the millions of lights.

wow, didn't know wanting to get away for a week would be this hard to decide. Don't want to fight the crowds and spend a lot of time in traffic jam, want to enjoy the area leisurely, enjoy the time away, and have fun doing things.

Glad to have gotten different aspects of the option weeks, still not sure lol.

Anything else to sway one week?

21st - better chance of the fall color near the peak. You won't be able to tell the difference in crowds between the 21st and the 28th.

Either week you go you won't be in any traffic jams, the only time that you really have to worry about traffic is when they are having a car show, other than that there will be no problems. We go 5/6 times a year and every in season and we never have any trouble, some people get on here and if they have to wait 5 minutes in traffic they think it's a traffic jam, just go any week and have fun, don't let crazy people change your mind.
