P Forge to Cherokee and back to Asheville: must do hikes

We (me, husband, boys ages 11,14,16, 23) are planning a trip (7 days) starting around Asheville and moving on to Pigeon Forge and back to Asheville. After seeing Chimney Rock near Asheville we've planned on stopping in Hartford for river rafting, and ending up at Dollywood for a day and a half. Also we were going to see the Dixie Stampede, the Forbidden Caves and the Magic show at Wonderworks. Leaving Pigeon Forge we plan on driving 441 through the Smoky Mtns, Cherokee and back to Asheville. After that we will drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Blowing Rock before heading back to Raleigh.

Where are some good short hikes or stops from Pigeon Forge to Cherokee? We plan on taking the whole day to get from Pigeon Forge to Asheville. We would like to make stops every so often throughout the day.

Hi! I'm not sure exactly where on 441 you'll be, but there is a nice hike that has 3 waterfalls on it near Deep Creek. It has Juney Whank falls, Indian Creek Falls, and Tom Branch Falls. It's not too long and not too strenuous from the looks of it. I haven't been before, but have read about it. Here's a good website with hiking trail information.

Also Clingman's Dome is a nice hike, only 1/2 a mile, but a pretty steep incline. It has awesome views also.

Mingo Falls is also a great hike off 441. Beautiful 120' waterfall. It isn't a long hike, but has lots of stairs. It is worth it though!

On the Blue Ridge Parkway stop at Graveyard Falls. There is a place to swim at the bottom. Also take a side trip to Sliding Rock on your way to Boone. The kids will love it. As long as there is not a thunderstorm its open. You will have to back track back to the BRP but its worth the trip.
