Looking for any info. on RCl.
I live on Richland Chambers. Is there anything specific you want to know?
schatz80- now that I am not at work, I can type a few more details. I have lived here for six years, owned the property since the 90's. Most people buy property here because it is not a Corps of Engineers lake and you can get right on the water or very close. There are over 50 developments around the lake- everything from gated communities to areas that allow trailers. The area is very rural, lots of farms and ranches. Also lots of wildlife, including bald eagles.
The lake is bisected by Hwy 287 from Corsicana. On the southside CR 416 runs from i-45 through Streetman out to 488 that crosses the dam back over to 287. On the northside, Hwy 31 runs from I-45 through Kerens.
There are 4 marinas, none of them particularly fancy as you find at Grapevine or Lewisville. This is basically an undiscovered reservior. Oak Cove Marina, Fisherman's Point and Southport Marina have been here awhile. One has recently re-opened on the north side but I can't think of the name.
Don't expect to find much in the way of restaurants or shopping. We do appreciate what is out here. Kerens, 10 miles from my house, has a nice Mexican restaurant, a steak place and a donut shop that has pretty good Chinese take out. Off of 287, before the bridge, Oak Cove Marina has a good cafe with breakfast and lunch basics. They have re-opened the Shell station which also is selling some food. Harbor Inn at Southport is the most "restaurant" like with a real bar and live music. On the south side, off of 416, the Draft House struggles to stay open (excellent pizza) and there is good food at the Shell station, all in Streetman. Fisherman's Point has a good little restaurant that offers buffet.
Our big thrill last year was Eureka, little town on 287, passed beer/wine so the Aggie Store is the closest place to buy alcohol.
As I write, the lake is 5' down. We have seen it as much as 11.5' down- not pretty- hard to find a place to launch a boat or jet ski when it is like that. However, you won't find a quieter place to be on the water. Sometimes, as we drive around, we won't see another boat for miles. It is a very large lake with LOTS of trees in the water so beware.
I hope this may have touched on your questions. If not, write back or PM me.
We will be staying on the lake in a rental home in March/April. Can you recommend a Marina on RCL that rents ski boats & jet skis for our visit?
Thank you ~
