Baseball game/Memorial Day weekend 09

Hello

My husband, son, and I are coming to see the Yankees play the Rangers on Memorial Day and plan to arrive in town on that Sunday. I'm looking for suite-type hotels (family friendly and budget friendly--hopefully) so we can stay Sunday and Monday nights. Are we better off to stay in Arlington rather than Dallas? I don't know what to expect with holiday traffic in the general area. If we stayed in Dallas, rather than Arlington, would the traffic getting to the ballpark be horrendous (it's a 1:00 p.m. game, I believe)? If you have any opinions about this or any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

We don't have any other plans besides the ballgame right now, but we do enjoy eating out and I love to shop (although that's not so easy with a toddler in tow these days--ha, ha!). I wasn't sure about family type activities on Sunday and Monday evenings. Thanks!!

Traffic won't be horrendous, just busy. However, unless you have a particular reason to stay in Dallas, I would recommend Arlington. There are several suite type hotels in the Ballpark/Six Flags/Hurrican Harbor area including a new Comfort Suites on Road to Six Flags. There are also "preferred hotels" listed on the visitor bureau websiste that provide access to a trolley that goes to several of the area attractions. And there is a listing of other accomodations as well. Keep in mind that there is construction going on around I-30 in this area. Since it is the first major holiday of the season, Six Flags and Hurricand Harbor will be busy!

Lincoln Square and the Parks Mall would be good for shopping as well as dining.

Thanks for all that great information--and for letting me know about the construction going on in the area.

I am going to check out those hotels that may have trolley access--that would be great to use that to get to the ballpark! Thank you again.

I don't know that much about Arlington, but if you do stay in Dallas and want to shop, visit the Galleria or NorthPark. The Galleria has a childrens play area on the 3rd floor.

Traffic in the immediate ballpark area does get a little harry before and after the game, but shouldn't be too bad outside of that area at 1:00pm. But you will hit rush hour traffic once the game is over. Because of that'd, I'd recommend staying in Arlington. Arlington has a lot to do, and it has the Parks mall. I haven't been there in a while, but I do know it has an ice skating rink now.

Have a good trip!

Note that the highway to the Ballpark is currently under construction. We went last night and there was a backup to get to the ballpark--thirty minutes after the game started. And it wasn't close to a sell out!

It's not bad getting to the ballpark, but I would plan on traffic.

Thanks for the recent replies and comments on the traffic situation. Wouldn't you know--we booked a room in Dallas, not Arlington! We've decided to come to town the Sat. before the game and do some other things too, so we didn't want to be in Arlington the whole time. We'll just have to give ourselves plenty of time to drive out there. It may work to our advantage--our son's nap time is around that time of day and we're hoping he'll sleep in the car!

Thanks for letting me know about the play area at the Galleria! That may be the perfect way to convince my husband to let me have some shopping time, since our son can get some play time in too.

We're also thinking of going to the Dallas zoo on that Sunday. Any comments, suggestions, etc.? Thank you---we're excited about our trip!

Depending on where you are staying and the age of your son, maybe consider the Arboretum rather than the zoo. It is so green and pretty, plus he can run around a bit and see the palyhouses.

I would recommend not staying in Dallas or Arlington but staying in Grapevine or Southlake about 25 minutes from the ballpark. This area will provide you with great shopping and activities for you and your family. Stroll down old downtown Grapevine. Stay at the Wolfs Lodge where there is an indoor waterpark that caters to kids. Go upscale and visit Southlake town center. Take an old fashioned train ride into downtown Ft Worth from downtown Grapevine. Dozens of restaurants and hotels with variety to fit all budgets and tastes. Plenty of activites to occupy everyone for two or three days
