24 Hours Near the Palladium Ballroom

Coming into town for a concert in May, would like to stay in a hotel close to the Palladium. Is this area safely walkable for ladies to any of the hotels or will we need to drive/taxi (are there many taxis or do you need to call for them?)?

Any other suggestions for things to do/places to eat/can't miss things in the area? We're not much for shopping but do enjoy museums/zoos/aquariums/good food. Vegetarian/gluten free food a plus.

I'm not going to rec walking because you'd have to walk under the convention center and it's kinda dark. If there is a convention in town and you see large groups of people out walking - then maybe; otherwise take a cab.

Closest hotel is the Omni. Next closest is Aloft. After that, look at Magnolia, Adolphus and other downtown hotels.

For veg g/f food look up Good Karma Kitchen and see if their food truck schedule fits within your plans. V Spot would also be a good option. Many people like Spiral but they have lots of those gluten-y fake meat products. Mesa is a Mexican place with a couple of good options. Wild Salsa has a veg tamale you might be able to eat.

We recently went to a show at Poor David's Pub which is on Lamar, same as the Palladium, a few blocks away. We took the DART light rail to Cedars station, walked over to the club, and took a taxi back to the Hyatt Regency where we were staying. The walk is close to half a mile to the Palladium from the train station. The train stops running to that station around midnight, thus the return taxi trip (about $10 with tip). We called for a taxi when we were ready to go.

Got a good deal on the Hyatt on Priceline ($60).
