Which area to stay in downtown Dallas?

Hi, my hubby and I are planning to visit Dallas for the first time on Dec 28th for 4 days. This is our tentative itinerary:

12/28: Arrive at 3:30pm - Shop and dine at The Galleria

12/29: TRE to Fortworth - Sundance Square/ Ft Worth Stockyards

12/30: Shop and dine at Northpark Mall

12/31: Big D NYE 2013 at Victory Park

We will get around using mostly DART and taxis. Should we stay at the Arts District ... is the area lively at night with restaurants and shops ... or any area in downtown is fine?

The Joule downtown is very nice and should have a lively party scene. But I do like the location of The Fairmont - it gives you downtown and Arts District.

The Fairmont is very nice and close to the venues in the Arts District.

The Mckinney Avenue Trolley (MATA) has a stop out in front and you could ride to Uptown for more shopping action.

I can't say that any area of downtown is "lively at night with restuarants and shops". You might be better off looking at Uptown and closer to the West Village. Hotel ZaZa, Stoneleigh, Ritz Carlton, Crescent are all on the trolley line that would make getting around easier.

You might also look at the Hotel Palomar- it is right by Mockingbird Station and the DART light rail station.
