6 hour layover in dallas

Hi all,

I am traveling later this month and have a 6 hour layover in Dallas. I was wondering if someone could recommend somewhere to eat that isn't far from the airport, preferably a good Bbq joint and something else to do for a couple hours.

any help would be appreciated. ( I am traveling alone so no kids to slow me down :D )

Note that there are four good barbecue restaurants within the airport.. The newest is Railhead in Terminal A (really good, and the one I'd recommend). There is also excellent shopping throughout the airport. So if you find you don't actually have six hours to work with you can fine plenty of interest within the terminals.

Grapevine is a small town with a quaint Main Street filled with mostly independent businesses - shops/boutiques, wine tasting rooms (TX wines), galleries, restaurants/cafes. A couple of miles away is a Bass Pro Shop location and (nothing spectacular) Grapevine Mills Mall (although Sea LIfe Aquarium is there). https:/…Default.aspx

There is a circular shuttle (small fee) that runs throughout Grapevine, with 3 routes inclusive of stops at Grand Hyatt (Term D) and Hyatt Regency (via Term C)

thank you for all the suggestions. I kinda want to leave the airport since i have so much time, i'd like to sit at a good bbq joint. I am not renting a car but maybe i will look into that, i was planning on just cabing it. Thanks for the options steve z, i will check them out. Not really looking for steak places, mostly just bbq. Some good ribs and brisket would rock.

Hard Eight BBQ is in Coppell - about 10-15 min from the terminals, non-rush hour. They have a good selections of meats that are sold by the pound so.... a word of caution, exercise restraint! :) Example: Order one or 2 slices of brisket, 1/3 link sausage, 2 ribs, etc..... It's easy to get out of control and end up with a large check, but a good option because you get to try several different meats at reasonable portions. (and if you order 2 of something, don't let them try to guilt you into a 3rd. I've known them to do that) http://www.hardeightbbq.com/

With 6 hours, you should have time to spare. I'd suggest Terminal D for browsing and other interests. You can take Sky Link to your departure terminal (if other that D) without exiting security. (See selectable icons under terminal map) http://www.dfwairport.com/terminals/d.php

I just drove past Hard 8 yesterday for the first time. Didn't realize how close it is to the airport.
