One day in Dallas, help me pick a couple places to eat!

Hi Ya'll!

Visiting Dallas for just one day next week (Wednesday) and trying to find a good place for my husband and I to eat. We love local restaurants and hate chains. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza downtown and would like to stay around this area, if possible. We are heading to Fort Worth on Thursday, so I am contemplating waiting on the steakhouse dinner till FW? Thoughts?

We need a place for lunch, dinner and (possibly) breakfast. I have looked at the Iron Cactus for lunch (around 1PM), then we are heading to the 6th Floor Museum. For dinner, YO Steakhouse? Or maybe something more casual like Christie's (for the sports loving husband?). And for breakfast, Ellen's Southern Kitchen? We want to spend around $25-30 for lunch for 2 and around $80 (or less of course) for dinner (for 2).

We are totally open to suggestions also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest skipping Iron Cactus and head to the east edge of downtown - Il Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum for uniquely, excellent pizza from a wood fired oven. It's not NY style, nor Chicago style and most assuredly not Dominos! My favorite is the Cassie. With minimum ingredients, the hot soppressta will leave a wonderfully lasting impression.

I'm not a fan of Iron Cactus. Wild Salsa is much better especially in terms of food quality.

Cane Rosso is a great place if you are in the mood for authentic Neopolitan pizza.

Dinner-wise. I thought YO Ranch was a chain. I don't get into West End often enough. If you wan steak, like you said, save if for Ft Worth - maybe Lonesome Dove. Or more casual, Woodshed. But that's Ft Worth.

Dallas for dinner - Mot Bai Ha just opened last week. It's the right price point for you. Look at the menu online, it's small, but focused. It's Vietnamese. I had the crab...messy but delicious!!!

Ellen's for breakfast is a great choice.

For dinner in FW, take a look at both Reata (downtown FW's Sundance Square) or Lonesome Dove (Stockyard's). Both have options other than steak, but Reata has fewer steak options - ribeye ordered by the oz (@ 2.45/oz). LD, owned operated by celeb chef Tim Love, features several game meat options - all steaks are ordered by the oz (avg @ $4.00/oz). Sides are ordered separately in both restaurants. Menu prices will likely dictate your decision.

As to setting - neither is button-down, formal. LD is in a smaller space with tighter seating. Reata's dining room portrays a grander Texas "experience", plus if it's a nice evening, they have a roof-top bar/patio dining area.

Regardless of your choice, both are in wonderful areas for a post dinner walk-around, so don't neglect that opportunity!

For a fairly inexpensive breakfast (or lunch) check out Cindi's NY Deli next to Hotel Lawrence on Houston across from Union Station.

For dinner, look at Dakota's on Akard. Might push you past your $80 but there's a lot on the menu to choose from.

I definitely second Reata's in downtown FW. In the FW Stockyards, we like Cattlemen's. Nothing fancy- I like the chickenfried steak, DH gets the ribeye.
