Dallas Football

Hi, I am visiting Dallas in October 17th-21st and really want to check out a football game. Does anyone know of any college games or NFL games on at this time?

Cheers

Francesca

The Pro team, the Cowboys, play at Philadelphia that weekend. The college team also plays away.

It looks like the main college teams all play out of state that weekend, except Texas A&M will be playing Auburn. Very well could be a good game. It's around a 180 mile drive to College Station.

Small college Texas State will be playing Georgia State Uni in San Marcos, about 235 miles away.

The other Pro team plays out of state, too.

Wish I had better news for you

For high school possibilities google Dallas area school districts. Once you have some names, go to their websites and check the athletic calendars. You can see who is playing on that night. You will also be able to find addresses for the stadiums and then either google map or mapquest (I prefer mapquest) to see how to reach them from where you will be located. These games don't have quite the same pizzazz as the pros and the stadiums certainly don't have all the bells and whistles (think sitting outside on bleachers) of the NFL or even college stadiums, but it is a unique experience. If you are interested, check out the book Friday Night Lights for some color and context.

After my last post, I checked the schedule for The University of Texas at Austin (hook'em horns) Longhorns schedule. They do play in Austin on the 21st, against Kansas State. Time still to be announced. This would be about 190 miles from Dallas, depending on where you are located in the DFW area. As a person who has a UT graduate in the family, I am honor bound to recommend that if you are going to drive to see a college game you go to Austin and see the Horns :-). If you have the time, you could stay one night in Austin--great live music scene there.

If you want to see Baylor play Iowa State, Waco (where Baylor is located) is about a one and a half hour drive from Dallas, so you could definitely get there and back in one day. Aside from the game, I would not recommend spending too much time in Waco. There is not much to do. I may be a bit biased since I am a Baylor grad myself, but since our team has been getting better, the games have been a lot more exciting!

If you do decide to go see a high school football game instead of a college game, try taking a look at 5A high schools. 5A schools are the bigger schools and tend to have better, more exciting games. Here is the schedule for the Texas 5A schools: txprepsfootball.com/2011-schedules/20135asch…

Re High School games - for the purpose of planning, they are generally played Fri evenings, starting time 7:30 or 8:00 pm. If staying on the north side of Dallas, check the schedule for Allen. If staying to the west of Dallas, look at Southlake Carroll.
