Not sure how old the kid is or what your general interests are but first thing that comes to mind is the Perot museum.

Think about visiting Fort Worth while you are in the area. Have a look at The Stockyards National Historic District. There is a small longhorn cattle drive twice a day. Professional rodeo most Friday and Saturday nights at the Cowtown Coliseum, as well as the Pahnee Bill's Wild West Show. There is also a maze there that kids seem to love.

Check out the lights at Grapevine. There is also the Grapevine Vintage Train, which is a steam locomotive that travels from the Stockyards Station to historic Grapevine.

You could look into a tour of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Check out Fair Park--the Aquarium, Museum of Nature and Science, Age of Steam Railroad Museum.
