Traveling Alone

Hey there! I'm in my mid-thirties and I'll be in Dallas by myself for a couple of days. I would love to stay at a hotel that is within walking distance to the best restaurants and best unique shopping area. Where do you suggest I stay?

Dallas is huge and major traffic. If you are in town on business, it would help us guide you if we knew where that destination is. Some of us Texans dread visiting Dallas because it is so spread out. Lot's of good restaurants and shopping everywhere, just trying to help you out by narrowing it down. Thanks much.

I'd stay downtown. Walking distance to the arts district, farmers market (for pecan lodge BBQ), JFK museum and a host of restaurants downtown. Could also walk to the AA arena too. I stayed at the Hotel Indigo and it was great.

Not too much shopping downtown though except for Neiman Marcus store.

Downtown is a good central base. From there, you can take the DART light rail to NorthPark Center - not so much unique, but exquisite. DART's D-Link to Bishop Arts will get you both unique and eclectic as well as very good dining options - breakfast through dinner. The McKinney Av Trolley will shuttle you through Uptown, terminating at West Village - more shopping and noshing. Lastly, if "unique shopping" should include western, Fort Worth is about an hour's ride away on the Trinity Rail Express (no Sunday schedule, no late night schedule).

Because Dallas is very spread out, it'd be impossible to walk to all of these places. Fortunately, Dallas is finally developing a public transportation system that makes sense to both locals and visitors.

If it's an enjoyable day for outside activity, check out Klyde Warren Park and Dallas Heritage Village both in the downtown perimeter.
