Girls' Weekend near DFW

3 friends (in our 30s) are looking for a place to spend a relaxing weekend in September or October close to the DFW area. Our last two trips were to a Marriott near the River Walk in San Antonio and Horseshoe Bay Marriott. We are looking for a nice room with lots of space, a pool area that is great for lounging with a book and a margarita with a nice hot tub, a variety of dining choices, and somewhere to have adult beverages and chat for hours, and maybe a spa treatment or two.

We want it to be far enough away so that the friend who lives in Arlington feels like she is getting away, too, but we don't want to drive so far that we might as well have just stayed in Austin. We will gamble if gambling is there, but it won't be the main point of the trip. We just want to leave the kids and husbands and jobs behind for a couple of days and recharge and come back refreshed.

Here are the places on my list:

The Hilton Resort in Rockwall

The Gaylord Texan

Winstar Casino

Chocktaw Casino in Durant

I looked at the Rough Creek Lodge and I think it might be a little more sporty and pricey and less relaxy than we are looking for. ;)

Any thoughts on the 4 places on my list? Any places we should add to the list?

I would not recommend the 2 casinos. They are terrible gambling and they sit in the middle of nowhere, so nothing else to do. I don't know about the rooms or pools but it's sure not where I would want to spend much time.

You could stay at any nice hotel in Dallas area or North Dallas. Hundreds, if not thousands of places to eat, shop, relax etc. The Hilton in Rockwall is an interesting choice.

I did a girl's weekend long ago at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas. I know that's not at all far from Arlington but it was amazing and worth mentioning. Not sure what your budget is but it was a great stay. I agree about the casinos. They're on the side of the highway with nothing around, at all. I've only experienced the Gaylord at Christmas, (never again!!), and it was extremely busy and there were a million kids, but again, that was at Christmas. The rooms were nice enough, there are a ton of restaurants but I don't know, I don't really think of it as a 'fun place' for adults - the Great Wolf Lodge is right across the highway from the Gaylord if that gives you any idea. The layout of Horseshoe Bay Marriot you mentioned, (I stayed there 6 years ago), is very similar to that of the Four Seasons in Las Colinas. Good luck!

I agree with MFL1460. The Four Seasons has great pools and a nice spa plus access to some good dining. To me it is more of a grown up get away place. The Gaylord just always seems so busy, busy, busy, not particularly relaxing or upsacle.
