Going to Fort Worth on Wed 07/13

We are visiting Fort worth for a couple of days starting 07/13 and are staying at the Green Oaks throught the military. Does anyone have any great ideas for keeping the kids (11 and 3) entertained during the day that is inexpensive, not too hot and loads of fun. THanks for you reply.

The zoo is probably the nicest in the state. Go early to beat the crowds and heat. IMO, the stockyards really isn't that neat for kids. Check out the downtown museums, the Botanic Gardens, and Sundance Square, especially in the evening. There are a number of movie theatres, restaurants, etc... down there. You'll just miss the Gran Fiesta de Fort Worth and Ringling Brothers.

Check out Burger's Lake. It is an old time, family oriented water park with a one acre spring fed lake. It is close to Green Oaks Inn but you would need a car plus take a cooler. burgerslake.com

If you go to the zoo and it's hot...don't worry too much because they have misters everywhere to stand under to cool off. The Ft Worth zoo is definately one of the best in the US. Wed is half-off day.

There is a mini train ride located on the same road as the entrance of the zoo. It's inexpensive and a fun ride. They stop in the park and everyone gets out to get a soda and popcorn.

In the botanical garden, there is the Japanese Garden which is fantastic and loads of shade. Take lots of quarters to feed the koi. It costs a couple of dollars to get in.

The science museum is probably the best thing to do if it is too hot outside. They have plenty to for both of your kids. They have an Imax also.

The Stockyards are great fun and very family friendly (in the daytime, at least!). Twice a day, the longhorn herd is rounded up and the cowboys drive them through the street; aterwards, the kids can have their pictures taken on the back of an obliging cow! There are lot sof other fun attractions there, and I think the kids will have a great time.
