Downtown Sports Bars or ?????

My son and I have tickets for the NCAA Regionals at Cowboys Stadium, and will be staying at the Embassy Suites downtown over the weekend. Games are on Friday and Sunday so we'll have Saturday free. Barring any better suggestions, I'm thinking we'll spend some/most of it in a sports bar watching other tournament games. Any recommendations for good ones within walking distance of the Embassy Suites, or better yet, suggestions for something else to do? Would also like to find a decent steakhouse or some good barbecue. I say "decent" because son is 25, so his tastes still run quantity over quality, but I have my standards. ;-) Thanks!

Right by your hotel is the Fox and Hound, a very large sports bar. A farther walk is Frankie's. The Flying Saucer isn't exactly a sports bar but it has a huge beer selection.

For steak, we like Cattlemen's in the Stockyards. For BBQ, Angelo's over on White Settlement. For general all round good food, including steak, try Reata. For quantity over quality and in downtown, Riscky's will probably do.

Thanks, poodleone. I did a search and saw that you'd recommended Fox & Hound, but didn't realize there's a downtown location too. I think we'll definitely be hanging out there part of the weekend. And thanks for the other recs too.

Still wondering about what we might do on a Saturday, though, since neither of us have ever been to Ft. Worth, or spent more than a day or two in Texas for that matter. Is there anything at the Stockyards that might be of interest?

I really do recommend the Stockyards. Yeah, it can be a bit touristy but, even when we were locals, we enjoyed seeing the longhorn cattle drive, hanging out at the White Elephant saloon and shopping in the little stores. Lots of places for live music. You could see the Stockyards Rodeo or go to Billy Bob's for the bull riding. In Sundance Square (downtown) you could go to Four Day Weekend (improv comedy), Hyena Comedy Club or catch live music at several venues including Flying Saucer, McDavid Studio and Scat Jazz Lounge. Bass Hall may also have something going on that you would enjoy- check the link below. There's also Pete's Dueling Piano bar if you like that kind of thing.

You may have already checked this out- the Sundance Square link is very good for what is happening in downtown.

Another option is Frankies Sports Bar.

Thanks again, poodleone; you too bigwillie. I especially appreciate all the links, which have me thinking this will be a fun weekend, even if we just get a small taste of Ft. Worth. Last thought.... any fun place where I can see my son being thrown from a mechanical bull?
