Coming to town for Stars Hockey Game/ Cowboys Game-

We are coming to town to take in both events, Likely would stay downtown Dallas the 1st 2 nights, then was thinking Fort Worth or Arlington for the next 2. Or would I be better to base ourselves in Fort Worth for the full 4 days?? Would like not to rent a car as we would prefer not to have to park and do like to enjoy beverages. Any suggestions as to how to get to these points?? Or what my best options would be with this kind of trip? It will be just my husband and myself. Any advice much appreciated!

This is Texas. It's really difficult to get around without a car. Most people who have cars (which is most people) aren't versed in mass-transit options. There is a train, operated by the Fort Worth transit authority (called "The T") that runs between the two downtowns. Its Dallas station is within walking distance of where the Stars play, but it doesn't go anywhere near Arlington, where the Cowboys play, and I don't know about bus options to the stadium from either downtown area.

Fort Worth is closer to Cowboys Stadium than Dallas, and, IMHO, it's easier to travel to a game from Fort Worth than from Dallas.

There are plenty of places to stay in Arlington, but I suspect, based on years of attending college games in another city, that you will get hit with a two-night minimum and an exorbitant room rate if you stay there during a game weekend.

Clarification: The train between Dallas and Fort Worth is called the Trinity Railway Express, or TRE. It may or may not be operated by the T; I don't know. (What'd I tell you about local folks not knowing much about public transportation?) ;)

You could easily base yourselves in Dallas for two days for easy access to American Airlines Center and the hockey game. The DART light rail has a stop at Victory Station right out side AAC.

However, if you want to stay in Fort Worth the entire four days, the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) runs special trains for all Stars and Mavericks games plus for getting to the Cowboy game, the T (FW bus service) offers a shuttle to Arlington and the stadium on game day.

It is hard to beat the Sundance Square area of FW for walkabiity as well as variety of hotels/restaurants/entertainment venues. The Stockyards and the Museum District have some great places to visit .

As you have a chance to read some of the threads on the Dallas and Fort Worth forums, you will get a better idea of what is available in each downtown- that may help you decide. Please post back if you have more questions.

PapaHedgehog- Trinity Railway Express is a cooperative service provided by the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).
