looking for little gem

gday all a few friends and i are travelling from oz to the states in April, will be in fort worth for 4 nights we all love a cold ale and a laugh. we have done some research but if anyone knows of a bar that is off the beaten track or any other local secret spots we would love to hear about them as we would like to mingle with the locals and not tourists.

cheers, brent

A tour of Rahr Brewery - limited days/hours - http://rahrbrewing.com/brewery/

Fred's Texas Cafe - http://fredstexascafe.com/

It's in the middle of the somewhat touristy historic Stockyards, but the White Elephant Saloon, preceded by/during/after a burger at the neighboring Love Shack.

I love grits when prepared properly (cooked for a long time till they are thick and the "grit" is soft), but they can be rather bland without a copious amount of butter, salt and pepper. :) They're absolutely delicious with an over-easy, fried egg partially mixed in!

Hopefully, you'll find some that have been well prepared - if they're soupy, they're very likely undercooked and won't be good.

Grits- yet another of those foods that divide us into two camps- sweet or savory. I am a butter and sugar gal myself :-) Also love cheese grits- just stir in some shredded cheddar- yum. Paris Coffee shop gets my vote as well- and get some pie.

Rodeo Goat has a great beer selection, delicious burgers and fries, and yummy chocolate fried pies-cool patio as well! Check out Magnolia st, aka the Near Southside. Magnolia as lots of restaurants and bars and is a walkable street.
