I don't think there is any way to get directly from Austin to Galveston unless you rent a car and drive yourself. The fastest option is going to be to fly into Hobby Airport in Houston and take a shuttle service from there.

No, shuttle, but the day before you can ride Megabus to Houston and then get a shuttle from Houston to The Strand where you can book a hotel and rise in the morning to walk to ship. Never trust traffic in a major city like Houston on the "day of" a cruise. It's too risky to loose all that money.

Sunday traffic headed to Galveston in early February should be very light, despite what Georgetowngal says. Traffic here sometimes is less than it is in Austin.

Having said that, I'd definitely either spend the night in Houston or Galveston, or take a morning flight from Austin to Hobby Airport, and take a Super Shuttle or something similar to get you down there well ahead of your scheduled departure time (probably late afternoon): supershuttle.com/Locations/HOUAirportShuttle…

Bon voyage!
