kiekids--First, understand that you'll be there right smack in the middle of Spring Break if you're able to get reservations at all. That is probably the busiest week of the year in Galveston.

I don't mean to "unsell" Galveston, but its beaches and waters aren't the best in Texas, as silt from the Mighty Mississippi tends to drift all the way over, giving the water a brownish-blue color, and the sand, a brownish color, rather than a light or white color. The water is safe to swim in, although in early March, it may still be fairly cool.

Having said that, the Pleasure Pier might be the "hot spot" on the island, and the closest hotels/motels would be: Country Inn & Suites by Carlson; Four Points by Sheraton; Hotel Galvez & Spa; and others a little further away. All are directly across the Seawall Blvd. from the beach. I'd suggest going to Google Maps, enter "Pleasure Pier" (or whatever destination you choose), and then "Search nearby" hotels to see which ones are nearby. You can then get an idea of what type accommodations each offers, how the ratings are, and what the approximate costs are.

Good luck on finding a room!

If you are wanting any beach, the hotels/motels along the seawall are fine, but you have to walk across a major road to get to the seawall beaches. You can find all budgets along this stretch of seawall.

If you want a beach with restrooms and concessions, you need to go to Stewart Beach. There are usually a lot of families here too. This is a bit further east than "the main action" of the seawall. You might try the La Quinta or Four Points by Sheraton for this.

East beach has really popular with the spring break crowd but is further away from the "action". Condos are down on this end.

Hope this helps.
