Travelling to Houston then to Dallas and to Oklahoma City

I am travelling from Ireland to Texas for first time in late June and am looking for advice as whats worth visiting on the route from Houston to Oklahoma City. We are then thinking of travelling over to Sante Fe, looking for advice for stop overs along the way.

Thanks in anticipation

Nothing too exciting from Houston to Dallas - maybe a stop at Corsicana for a bite to eat at Collins Street Bakery. The drive from OK to Sante Fe should be nice. Not sure if you want to (or have to) go to Dallas and OK City, if not taking a different route will take you bu Carslbad (caverns) and Roswell. If you are spending time in Houston and want to see places let us know.

Do you need to go the direct (fast) way? Or are you able to spend extra time going the long way?

Houston to Oklahma City will take a little over 7 hours going the direct way, Cutting over to Austin to see the sights there will add a little under 2 hours to your drive. Heading west to San Antonio before heading north to Oklahoma will add a little more than 3 hours. (Not including time spent sightseeing, of course)

Do you have that kind of time to invest? Or are you looking more for places to stop to break up the drive?
