Going to the east coast - Beach???

Hello everyone,

I will be in Houston for about a week last week of June for work and planning on extending my stay for the weekend. A friend of mine will join me and we were thinking to go east if there are any nice beaches to relax??? I've made some research but no luck about finding any info. Some tips? Does it worth?

Also, was is the best to get there?

Thanks a million!

The Florida panhandle has some nice beaches, from Pensacola to Pensacola. This is about a 9 hour drive to Pensacola.

In Mississippi, look at Gulfport/Biloxi area. This is about a 7 hour drive.

Both areas have white sand and beautiful water.

Take I-12 north and around New Orleans to save some drive time.

Don't forget the sunscreen!

If you want to fly you can go to Miami (FL) or Charleston (SC). If you are thinking of driving see above. If you want a shorter drive then Port Aransas (TX). Then there is always Galveston (TX).

I think the Gulf Coast (South Coast) beaches are nicer than the east coast beaches, depending on where you go, just don't go near somewhere where a large river is dumping out like the Mississippi or Tennessee Rivers, it makes for brown waters. Galveston is greenish brown, Destin Florida has clear water and white sand beaches, Gulf Shores Alabama=brown, Port Aransas Texas is clearer than Galveston but not crystal clear, South Padre Texas clearer still but not snorkel worthy. If you just want to get in some warm salt water and not drive or fly somewhere, I'd say go to Galveston, it's a short drive from Houston.

Hi,

If you are going to Florida, it's well worth the extra hour or two, to get to Pensacola, or a bit further. for Destin/Fort Walton Beach; the water is gorgeous, especially in Destin, and coupled with the white sand there, it's very nice.

Grew up here, love Galveston, and enjoy Pirate's Beach and Jamaica Beach on our coast. But, as it was said before, it isn't beautiful like the FL beaches, and swimming for children would definitely be better in Gulf Shores, ALA, with it's dark green/clear waters, or on to the places I mentioned above, in Florida, for water so many shades of blue, ever changing and relaxing.

Enjoy your trip!

Cupcake

We stayed at this Holiday Inn in Pensacola this month; it was wonderful--rooms, staff, beach, location, free breakfast and computers to use, and more!

Hi everyone - thank you all for your great tips and replies, you guys are awesome as usual!

Unfortunately, the after business trip is on hold for the time being as some other plans might come along (flying to San Diego instead).

But keeping in mind all your good advices in case we stick to the first plan (and the plan was not to fly).

Once again, thanks to all of you!

If you will be in Texas, South Padre is supposed to be fantastic.
