Battleship Houston set to close for repairs Monday

Battleship Texas will close next week for repairs after the 100-year-old vessel began flooding.

Ship manager Andy Smith tells the Houston Chronicle the ship will remain open to visitors this weekend, but is set to close Monday. The battleship, which fought in World Wars I and II and now serves as a memorial and museum to those who sacrificed their lives, will likely remain closed through June 22.

I believe it is the Battleship Texas. The ship developed a leak beneath the engine room and began to list. Repairs are in progress, and as knr said, the ship will likely be open again to the public on June 22nd,

The USS Texas will open Saturday, June 23. A temporary patch has been placed over the main leak, and other, smaller leaks are being evaluated. The ship wll be open to the public, but the third level will remain closed while being cleaned of oily residue.

The USS Texas is one of six remaining ships that served in both WWI and WWII.
