Stockport--are you looking for a single location, or do you want to see multiple sights along the way? How much time do you want to spend driving? When will you be travelling? What type accommodations do you prefer (budget-wise)? Anything else you can provide that will help us guide you with our recommendations?

Preferably a single location, will drive from there. We are regular road trippers so used to driving. Mid range hotel.

Beach = Port A or Galveston

City - Houston, Austin, San Antonio

Country = pretty much anywhere else.

2 Days is not a lot of time. Galveston might give you the option of city and beach.

Stockport--

It's hard to guide you, as you really don't give us much to work with. Houston is the 4th largest city in the country, with a wide variety of things to do.

The Austin/San Antonio area (70 miles apart) offers plenty of things to do, as well, especially if you drive toward Fredericksburg.

As Kingwood says, Galveston for beach (Port Aransas is just too small, with too little to do, although the beach is better).

The more info you provide us about what interests you, the more help we can be.

We have been looking at the plan for our trip. Sorry for being a bit vague. It seems we will fly into Austin (arrive 4pm). We plan to spend that night and one more in Houston. Then we think we will go to San Antonio for 2 nights before heading off to Fort Worth and doing a circular road trip.

Is 2 nights in San Antonio area too much?

Since you arrive in Austin at 4:00 PM, consider this schedule instead: spend the first two nights in San Antonio, as it's only about an hour's drive from Austin. (Houston is closer to a 3-hour drive.) Two days and nights in San Antonio is definitely not too much, as the city has much to offer, especially if you're willing to drive out to the Fredericksburg area (about 1.5 hour west) and see some of the hill country one day.

After two full days in SA, head to Houston for two days/nights (it's roughly a 3-hour drive). From Houston, head north to Fort Worth (approximately 4 hrs), spend whatever amount of time you want there, and then head back to Austin. This is closer to a true loop, rather than doing some backtracking as your original schedule called for.

If you'll tell us what your interests are, we can help you with suggestions, but all you've give us so far is the names of the cities you want to visit, so we have no idea what to suggest, where to stay, etc.

You could easily spend a week in San Antonio and not run out of things to do, so two nights is definitely not too much. I'm still a bit confused about your plans though. First you mentioned driving from New Orleans, with only two nights to spend somewhere, and then you said you were flying into Austin. If you are flying into Austin, it really doesn't make sense to drive to Houston for one night and then back to San Antonio for two nights before going to Ft. Worth. If you arrive in Austin, spend the night (or more if you can) there, and then go to San Antonio, since the two cities are only an hour's drive apart, and then go on to Houston. From Houston you can drive north to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

If you are in fact driving from New Orleans, and want to do a Texas circular route, Houston will be the first stop, then on to San Antonio, Austin, and north to Ft. Worth.

Our plans changed, sorry!

We fly in to Austin. After San Antonio it's to Fort Worth. Next stop Oklahoma, then Memphis and New Orleans. Finishing at Houston and flying home from there

9. Re: Where to go?

My sister and I (retired) are planning a trip to Texas. We will eventually taking a cruise out of Houston. Am interested in either a bus tour, or Amtrak eagle, to see as much of the southern part of Texas as possible. We will be travelling part of January/February. We hope to spend 3 - 4 weeks to see as much as possible. Any suggestions.
