Couples weekend for best friends 40th birthday!

We will be in Houston on Friday for the Nutcracker Market in Nov so since we will be there already we were going to have the husbands come up and we celebrate my best friends 40th bday- where should we stay and what should we do? We wanted to go to San Antonio originally but since we are already going to be here we will just do it there. The guys want to play golf on Saturday. Suggestions? Woodlands, Kemah, Galveston or just stay around Galleria? HELP! I go to Houston all the time but I don't think about it for this type of stuff. Some place nice and fun to eat at on Sat night also

CVW--The Galleria is the center of activity for nice dining and drinking. The ladies can spend time shopping while the guys are out golfing (no golf near the Galleria, other than Memorial Park Golf Course, a municipal course), but there are a number of courses available within a 30-45 minute drive that they'd enjoy. Within walking distance of the Galleria itself is one of Houston's best restaurants, Masraff's. http://www.masraffs.com/ It's expensive, but not like going to a steakhouse, and the food is absolutely great. Definitely make reservations in advance. If you like Italian, there's a new Italian place called Osteria Mazzantini also within walking distance. http://osteriamazzantini.com/ It can be a little more expensive, depending on what you order. You'll definitely need to make reservations well ahead here, as well, as this is a smaller venue.

Kemah is great for kids. Food is so-so at most of the restaurants there IMHO (most are owned by Landry's). The Woodlands is 30 miles or so north of Houston, and is its own city. There are some fairly good restaurants there, but we never hear of anything really outstanding.

Galveston is another story altogether--very casual, lots of history, great seafood, and, in November, the crowds should be relatively small. The Strand is an interesting place to walk around--schlocky souvenir shops mixed with great antique shops, interesting restaurants, etc. Along Seawall Blvd., there are a lot of inexpensive seafood restaurants, along with some higher-end ones.

Early November should bring great weather for Houston, so if you're into outdoor activities, the weather hopefully will cooperate. If you're into museums, Saturday would be a day to visit the Museum District if you're not into shopping. There is just so much to do, it's up to you and what your interests are. Let us know, and maybe we can be more specific.

A good option for golf would be the Tour 18 in Humble. It has 'copied' 18 famous holes from all over the country. Outside of that it depends what you want. Kemah is a great place but the food is not the best (not bad either). Sit by the water, people watch, listen to some music have a drink or two.

If you want really good food, most (not all) of them are close to Galleria. If you are going to be in Humble for golf check out Chez Nous (French) or Sorrento's (Italian), not sure where you can change after golf though.

If you really want to party you can go to Washington Ave and take the wave back and forth to the hotel (so you don't have to drive).

Try at least one meal in Chinatown.

Give more specifics and you will get better answers.

For a fun place to eat, I would highly recommend Provisions. Get a bunch of plates and share!
