If you are going to be in the area of the space center and you have children - you would probably love Armand Bayou Nature Center - they have weekend pontoon boat rides and also moonlight rides and you get to see marsh and wetland animals - really quite fun and interesting.

I do love Armand Nature Bayou, especially when it has been a few days without rain.

The first choice for us on a Sunday with our daughter is Hermann Park. You can go to the zoo, butterfly exhibit, rose garden, park, train ride, pattleboat rides and the science museum.

I have some friends that love The Aquarium downtown. Even though I live very close, I haven't been yet. It is quite expensive, but the ferris wheel looks pretty cool. If you go over to Memorial Park you can rollerblade. Memorial Park is a wooded oasis in the middle of the city.

If your kids love to shop and ice skate, then go to The Galleria. The ice skating rink should keep them entertained for at least an hour. Eat at the Cheesecake Factory for lunch. After you eat, just go out back to the Williams Tower waterfall. It is really beautiful.

The Kemah Boardwalk is veyr commercial, but kids seem to love it anyway (kind of like McDonald's). There are rides, restaurants and water.

Space Center Houston is dated and in my opinion overpriced. I second the suggestion of the zoo and the Natural History Museum. Also, your children might find it fun to go across the pedestrian bridges from the Galleria to the Water Wall.

Hi Rob -

Unfortunately because the weather here is so opressively hot and humid most of the year, Houstonians aren't very outdoorsy. But you'll be here at a great time of year weather-wise. Everylone loves to jog and bike at Memorial Park, which is right in the center of things between DT and the Galleria. And your kids might enjoy the Butterfly Center in Herman Park. Sometimes there are canoe excursions down Buffalo Bayou, which is interesting because it is a wild area that snakes right thru the center of town. You should be able to find info here

Oh - and you can also jog and bike along Buffalo Bayou near downtown.

After your exercise you'll be glad to know that there are millions of great, affordable restaurants all around town. And because Houston is a very international city - you can get any kind of food you want!
