Girls weekend

I am taking 3 of my girlfriends to Texas in May - one of them has never been there before. We will start in Austin where I have family, and a brother has offered us use of his ranch in Llano for a few nights. I have never been in that area - what should we plan to do? eat? Is it close to any national or state parks? Evening entertainment? We are 4 women in our 50s who have known each other since the 70's.

Cooper's BBQ in Llano. Nice shops in Marble Falls...also, the famous Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls..next door is Crownover's Feed Store..small area of shoes/boots etc.

when in May?

look here for possible events...broken down into regions

for a day trip could go for a day trip over to Fredricksburg..nice main street (& the nearby famous Luckenbach dance hall)

also east of Fredricksburg is LBJ working ranch/ National area

further a way is Bandera, TEXAS

Cowboy capital of the world.

there are numerous wineries in the hill country

Fall Creek Vineyards has a winery near Llano with a nice tasting room http://www.fcv.com/

Also nearby are a couple of state parks: Longhorn Cavern SP http://www.longhorncaverns.com/ and Colorado Bend SP …state.tx.us/spdest/…

If you have any birdwatchers in the group, check out www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/texas/balcones/ near Burnet

Thanks - I will check out the sites. Not sure how far LBJ ranch is - will check mapquest. My mother, 4 brothers and their families live in various parts of Austin. Think the vineyard will be a definite and maybe Cooper's.
