Goldcar Rental, Majorca - What a rip off! Beware!

Beware of Goldcar Rental. You pay for the first tank of petrol when you pick up the car. In our case recently this was ninety Euros which was a 25% mark up on the local garages for a tank of petrol.

Also as Majorca is only a relatively small island you will probably not use most of the fuel and end up giving them it back. All in all they made a packet on us.

We were also upgraded three levels which resulted in us getting a car with a huge tank of petrol which we didn't need.

My advice is to stay clear of them!

We've just had an awful experience with Goldacar in Murcia in May.

We were charged 111 euros for fuel and were given a car that had obviously not been cleaned - lighters and sweets on the back seat are never good when you've got 2 children.

When I received my credit card, they've taken another 120 euros (when we were back in UK) and after 5 weeks of emails with Carjet, they say this was for a "missing air compressor". They are refusing point blank to refund the money.

Be warned - stay clear of this awful company.

Complained to Goldcar Rental head office via email and got almost £40 back, which covers the petrol we didn't use. Still paid a big mark up for the petrol we did use though.

Makes them look cheap on the comparison websites then you get the nasty sting in the tail. Seems that a lot of people have had trouble with them. On a positive side the car was very clean and almost new.

If you don't mind paying a 25% premium for your mandatory first tank of petrol and are planning on using all of this petrol then Goldcar ARE ok.

If you are going to do a limited amount of driving and will not use this petrol then beware, especially if you get upgraded to a bigger car with a bigger tank of petrol. Remember they insist you bring it back empty!!!

I've used Goldcar on many occasions with no probs. Full-empty arrangement seems to be becoming more common. If you rent a car for less than 4 days they let you bring it back full and refund your fuel deposit, useful if going for weekend.

Problem for hire companies is that with most cars you can fill tank & drive for 50 km without needle coming off full marker.
