xmas cruise

we are coming in over xmas for a cruise with the thomson destinity , my question is, what is near to the boat, is their taxis near to the ship and easily back from all over lanzarote.

if the weather is good id like to hit the beach with some nice resturants and bars close by with beach loungers , can you advise of any.

Also of average cost of a cab

Thanks

There is a high rise shopping centre MUELLE directly as you come off the boat. Everything in there shops restaurants/bars.

Yes there are taxi s just outside the shopping centre.

Then you have all the shops of las Palmas right near to your docking ,and there is the famous golden sand Canteras Beach as well to look around. It goes the full length of las Palmas. There is a nearer beach to your ship though just past the Yacht club. You should see this nearer beach from the cruise ship as you come in.

The cost of a cab?, depends how far you want to go. From the Muelle shopping centre near to your boat to Corte Ingles The biggest multi story store.in the heart of Mesa Lopez, cost

4.75 well it did for my partner about 2 months ago. But you can also hop on and off buses all over Las Palmas .

You will get better weather in the south though at that time of year, For the beach .The taxis are expensive from Las Palmas to the southern resorts. you are better getting to the bus station in Las Palmas and get the Directo bus to the southern resorts. The one to Puerto de Mogan takes about an hour to get to Puerto Rico. and you have to change at either Puerto Rico or Playa del Cura. to then go on to puerto de mogan. Its about 4.75 again from your ship to the bus station in Las Palmas.

I would recommend you that if weather is ok in Las Palmas, dont go to the south of the island cause you could waste some time in the bus. You can visit Las Canteras Beach, visit the old zone of the city (Vegueta) and maybe go shopping at Mesa y Lopez Avenue or some shopping centre.

But if weather is not good in the city, then go to the south to enjoy with the sunny beaches.

Here you can find info about the city:

Cant add anything to Gran Canaria ,however if you boat is going into Tenerife ,then contact www.tenerifesunshine .com ,they now run trips from the cruise ports which are far cheaper than booking via your ship or tour company .They are a fantastic company with fantastic staff .

The hop on and off bus already suggested is a great idea , here is the link ......

Las Palmas is a lovely city if you are taken to the right places , and it would be a shame to miss the lovely old part Vengueta ....... the Canteras beach is fantasic if the weather is good ....

You can do this open top on off bus trip also for your stop in Santa Cruz Tenerife ....

thanks some great ideas , if we can hit a a beach/resturants near to the ship that would be wonderful and prevent us from going on a organised trip, the beaches recommended near to the ship, would they have loungers on.

I understand the area is cooler near to the ship than in the south, but would xmas time be reasonably warm for a dip in the sea.

Been to Canteras many times during Christmas breaks and the difference in weather between the south and Las Palmas is greatly exaggerated . I have been on days when it was cloudy in the South and lovely at Las Canteras.

There are sun loungers on the beach but not many. I have seen many swimming in the sea as there is protected shallow water which warms up nicely. Lots of good restaurants for lunch and the wonderful Hotel Isabel for tea and cake.

If you want to learn a little of the history then a number 1 bus to the other end of Las Palmas (don´t try walking) will take you to the cathedral and a number of small museums/galleries etc but if you can´t read Spanish you may be at a loss. This part of town closes for the siesta so if you want to do it it would be better to go there first and then come back to Las Canteras.
