Sea Grass

We visited Port Aransas in July of 2008 and some of the little ones wouldn't go to the beach because of all the sea grass. We are thinking of coming again this July.

Can anyone tell me if 2008 was a particularly bad year for sea grass? Is it something that comes and goes. Is there any way to tell if 2010 will be better?

There is no way to tell. One week can make a great difference. The sargassum was bad a few weeks ago but not bad now.

You can see for yourself

It is so bad right now you can't even get near the water without walking over a mat up to a foot thick! And the water is full of it. If I hadn't just paid for a week's stay down here, I would leave immediately. I have been to South Padre Island and they seem to do a much better job of keeping their beaches clean than does Port A, but haven't been in awhile, so probably should check recent postings from there.
