Love the beaches. You are able to drive on them. Merely drive to the high tide line, open your tail gate, and have a party.

Been a couple of years since we were there. As I recall there was a permit required to drive on the beach with permits being available at several convenience stores for a small fee. Is that still the case?

Actually, you can drive on the beaches without the permit. The permit is necessary to park your vehicle. There are also areas where you can park for free.
