Seaweed on the beaches?

Hi folks:

Just spent the past 4 days in Port Aransas and every beach was piled high with a 10' wide 2' deep berm of rotting sargassum seaweed. Kids still had a good time but it made for a rather unappealing beach experience.

Does South Padre have the same problem this time of year? Do they clean it up or leave it? Thinking of taking the family down to South Padre later this month but not if the seaweed is the same as in Port Aransas.

I don't understand seaweed.....sometimes it's a problem and sometimes it isn't. We were at SPI for 10 days over Memorial weekend, and the seaweed was bad during part of that time. They rake the beaches in the mornings and that helps. You just never know....

We were just there June 8-14 and we saw very little seaweed - they also cleaned the beaches quite a bit while we were there so it didn't pile up - maybe I didn't notice it because when we were in San Diego they had to clean the beach every day - what a mess and it was in the water everywhere

We just got home and it was bad if you are talking about that orangy type plant that gets washed up. We had to leave early because of ALEX. Our condo kicked us out!!!!

They've been showing Padre a lot on the local news, and the beaches they've shown do have a lot of seaweed currently. It's not always there though. We've been before when there wasn't any. Like everyone else said it seems to come and go.
